South Gippsland Hospital has a fully equipped operating room, post-anaesthetic care and a sterilising supply department (SSD). The operating suite team carry out approximately 700 surgical procedures per year, with visiting or local surgeons and local anaesthetists providing services on a regular basis.

Service provision includes:

• General Surgery
• Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• Urology and Gastroenterology (Endoscopy)

Operating sessions are generally scheduled five times per fortnight with on-call staff available for after-hours emergency caesarean section procedures.

A surgical pre-admission clinic is provided once a week.

The SSD processes reusable sterile stock for departments throughout the hospital and community health.
