A big thank you to Esso/BHP Billiton which contributed to the purchase of specialised Theatre equipment by way of a Karl Storz camera head. The camera head forms part of a stack of endoscopic HD imaging equipment used in urology, gynaecology and general surgical sessions each week. Mr Mark Duthie, Barry Beach Marine Terminal Superintendent, visited the hospital to see the camera head where Gabrielle Buckland, Peri Operative Nurse Unit Manager explained how it’s used.
The camera head forms one of three sets of ‘scopes’ that enables a smooth rotation of complete sets for theatre patients. Being able to provide this type of equipment for specialist and general surgeons in the hospital’s small but busy operating theatre enables many people in the community to have day procedures they would otherwise have to travel a significant distance away for and possibly need an overnight stay.
