Transport Assistance in Gippsland

Australian Red Cross Transport

Red Cross Patient Transport Service provides transport for eligible persons to essential medical appointments in Gippsland and Melbourne.  Volunteers pick up clients from home and take them to and from appointments in Red Cross fleet vehicles.

 Who is eligible?
To access Red Cross Patient Transport patients must be:

  • unable to drive or be driven by family/friends to appointments
  • living independently
  • not eligible for a DVA card or other schemes eg. TAC, Workcover
  • able to get in/out of a vehicle with minimal assistance

Transport Requests

Clients require a referral from a Doctor or other health professional. Appointment times in Melbourne must be between 10am and 2pm, to allow for travel time before and after appointments.

All bookings are to be made at least 48 hours in advance.  There may be times when Red Cross are unable to provide transport as there is only one car in each service area.  The vehicle is often fully booked so it is essential to book as early as possible.

There is no set charge, however clients are encouraged to make a donation if they are able, to assist the Red Cross to continue to provide this vital service.
